if only....

Get on my feet. Right now.

*sigh* If only I had the money to buy a pair of these shoes.... You can find these, boots, slip ons, and even more oxfords in various colors, patterns, and awesomeness here. For reals, check them out. They do awesome things with weavers and artisans in Guatemala and hand-make every pair of shoes. I'm kind of in love with Osborn shoes right now.

April Showers

It's been raining most of the week. Some of it's been nice, but for the most part I just want to sit inside and watch movies or make hot chocolate and bake cookies or just curl up in a corner and read all day under a blanket. Instead, I go to classes and stay up late doing homework. Oh the life of a student almost a week away from finals....

down in the dumps

I woke up and it was raining pretty hard. That's probably the most notable thing about today, to be honest.

(This top is actually dark purple, but the lighting wasn't really cooperating tonight....)

Lots of homework and reading still to be done. I kind of just want to take a shower and go to bed though. I was a lot more energetic last week. Probably because I actually ate lunch for most of the week because I didn't have assignments to work on before classes. I probably won't have time for lunch this week though. Sad day.

major boot crush

Oh my gosh. Look at those BOOTS! Look at them and tell me you don't automatically want them. I want a pair of those. Like, now.

Do they really even have majorettes anymore? I mean, my high school had a drill team that performed with the marching band. But they didn't wear epic outfits like THIS. I'm pretty sure they wore jazz shoes or the same tennis shoes as cheerleaders wear, but in black. They were also part of the JROTC too I think, because they did routines with drill rifles sometimes. And tall flags.
And I've seen my fair share of parades with drill teams since the Rose Parade happens kind of in my back yard every year and I've seen it for the past three years from my dad's office building. I don't think any of those teams had shoes like this. That I can remember.
The also kind of remind me of Ferris's girlfriend's boots from Ferris Beuller's Day Off. And lord knows I absolutely adore that movie. So those boots are pretty much a win.

Rolling with the Homies!

You know it's spring when the tulips and daffodils bloom and the grass is green again. I love the little garden in between the art building and the language arts and theology building at school! The flowers are gorgeous now and I wish I could steal a handful of tulips to have in my room. But I don't. 'Cause I don't have any vases to put them in.... and it might not be allowed.

It was warmer today, but not that much warmer. But black tights didn't really fit with this outfit, so we tried something new! I felt like I was bringing back the '90s a little bit. Haha! People might have been staring at me when I was going to class....
I had my mum send me this button-up in the mail last week because I knew that it could kind of revive my wardrobe a little bit as the school year winds down. I've had it since I was little, so it's quite short, but it still fits. Sometimes it's helpful to be a bit of a pack-rat....

For the past few weeks, there's been a woodpecker steadily drilling a hole into the side of the English, Theology and World Language building right outside one of my Lit classrooms. I couldn't get a picture of the actual woodpecker (he's a beast!), but this is his little hole. We've named him Heinrich after one of the characters in Ho Ahn Thai's short story The Barter.
Huge thanks to Madeleine for taking pictures for me today!

a Battle and a Date a good Saturday make

Yesterday was fun. There was a school-wide Live Action Role Playing event in the middle of campus, complete with fake weapons, costumes, and lots of war paint and guys in "kilts" (AKA really short skirts....). It was definitely the place to be on a Saturday afternoon. There was a one-on-one competition and then a teams battle between the different dorm communities that participated. It was a lot of fun to watch and take pictures.

And then later that night, some friends and I went and saw Date Night just because. It was incredibly funny! Tina Fey and Steve Carrell did a fantastic job. It was a great movie to watch with friends on a Saturday night, especially after not seeing a movie in theatres since December.... Now if only the weather will warm up again, the last few weeks of school will turn out very well.

"I'm never merry when I hear sweet music."

I performed a scene from Shakespeare's Measure for Measure today! We set it in like a 1940s film noir/mobster movie, so this is what my costume looked like. All thrifted (except for the belt since I owned that already). It went really well. There were other scenes set in a college fraternity party, the 80s, and Survivor's tribal council too. Lots of fun! My friend told me I should keep my hair like this all the time! Probably not, but I really loved dressing up. I've always loved clothing and hair styles from back then.

Oh! Happy Birthday to Shakespeare! (We performed our scenes today to celebrate!)

the spring sun will melt away all our cares

The weather today has been really strange. It won't be as warm the rest of this week as it was the last few days (although yesterday was gloomy and chilly most of the day), but today started out colder and has warmed up quite a bit to be in the lower 60s. So I wore tights today, even though I was not planning on it when I initially got dressed today. Oh well.

My school puts out cupcakes towards the end of every month for all the birthdays, so I got a cupcake tonight at dinner for my birthday! I'm excited to eat it since I didn't get a cake or anything this month to celebrate it. I had the party at my house during spring break, but no one at school really did anything for me. I got presents from Hayley 'cause I was at her house for Easter on my birthday.
Last night was the housing lottery for regular rooms, so I have a dorm room for next year! It's not where we wanted to live originally, but we fared better than some people because we had a better lottery number. It was so stressful last night watching all of the room numbers get crossed off that were available in dorms! (not that I could really see it on the wall until we got closer because I'm blind....) But now it's over and the only stressful thing before school is out is finals week. The awesome thing though is that I'm across the hall from some great friends next year, I have a great room mate, and my RA this year might be my RA next year (I'll find out on Sunday when they tell her what part of the dorm she's going to be in)! The stress is just kind of melting away with the colder weather now. It's wonderful. And soon I'll finally be home for summer! Yay!

in the shadow of trees

You know what's great? When it's 7:00pm in Spokane and it's in the 70s and the sun is not yet setting. I got to read for a while out on the lawn after dinner tonight and it was very nice and peaceful. I wish every day was like this. I'm really liking this whole early spring thing going on right now. Much better than the cold, rainy weather from two or three weeks ago.

This is the jumper I got at Goodwill on Sunday. Isn't it great?? I love the buckle details on the sides.

fantastic surprises

I went to Goodwill today in search of a costume for my Shakespeare performance on Friday and ended up finding something fantastic. Take a look!

And these shoes are for my costume, but I really like the color.... and the brand name on the sole. It was kind of awesome all the shoes they had in my size there. This kind of thing almost never happens to me since I have such tiny feet. There were like three different pairs to choose from in my size that would go with my costume, but I went with the cheapest ones since I don't have much money to begin with....
Oh, and good news of the week: After almost a month of stressing about it, I finally found a room mate for next year on Friday. Next year should be a really great year now. Now we just have to get signed up for a room and finish the rest of the year. And then I can go home for the summer. Things have been going really well recently. I'm really happy. :]

and the living is easy

The weather's been so nice recently! It's been perfect lay-out-on-the-lawn-and-read weather. So that's what I've been doing. My goal has been to spend as little time as possible in my room over the past few days and the weather's conveniently been helping me out. So this is what my afternoon looked like today:

The set-up. That blanket is perfect for lawn-basking.
There was a lady bug that hung out with me for a bit while I read. I named him Steve.
I read for a bit and then headed back inside and hung out with people in the downstairs lounge before going to a gospel choir concert and then a spur-of-the-moment (at least for me) viewing of The Blind Side. I've already seen it, but I like the movie so I just decided to go with one of my room mates when we met up with her on the way back from the concert. It's been a good, busy day. Now I have more homework to do and a costume to track down for a performance on Friday that I have a meeting for tomorrow.

registration blues

Um.... why would I get this email....:

If this kept coming up on the screen when I tried to register...??:
(Good news is that I did actually register for classes and the registration site was just playing some kind of sick joke on me....)

if on a sunny day in April a skirt

I GOT A NEW SKIRT!!! It came in the mail today and I was so excited! I kinda splurged and bought it and a new pair of sandals from Forever 21 because they were really cheap and I really liked them. It's a bit short, but it's perfect! Especially since today was really warm and sunny! I went outside after class with a blanket and If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino and read for a while with a friend on the grass, in the sun, wearing this. It was fantastic. (I realized after I was outside that it would've been a perfect time to take pictures, but I didn't have Marcus with me....) And what's even better is that tomorrow is supposed to have even nicer weather! I'm the happiest Souther California girl ever right now!

I actually started off the day in jeans and this blouse, but it didn't feel right. So getting this skirt in the mail was absolute perfection. Totally made the outfit.

My friend Bobby had this wrapped around his ice cream cone at dinner tonight and tried to stick it on my face. But I really liked it so I kept it. I love the little kids on it - so cute!
Well, I have a history paper due tomorrow and I've been avoiding it. So I should probably get on it. I feel like I'm in a constant state of paper writing these days (most of the time not for my literature classes....) and I still have another paper to write for the Calvino this weekend. Oh the joys of almost being done with the school year....
