the little tomboy that could

At dinner, I was told that I was cute, as in little-tomboy-who-is-forced-to-wear-a-dress-to-church-but-is-still-going-to-run-around-with-the-boys-outside-and-get-dirty cute because of my choice of shoes. That totally describes my cousin to a T when we were little. She hated dresses and wore cargo shorts under them when her mum forced her into them for Easter or parties. I was a lot more willing to dress up in cute little dresses, although I did run around with the other kids a lot too. To be honest, I just grabbed the shoes on top of the pile and threw them on before dinner, but I guess it works. I don't know about the whole five-year-old tomboy aspects of it, but that's okay. Did you notice that the dress has POCKETS??? That and the braiding are my favorite parts of this dress. The color's really nice too. I wish it was a little shorter, but I AM a really short person to begin with.

celebrating my mum and a to-do list

Happy Mothers' Day! Here's celebrating my wonderful mum! I love her a whole bunch!

Isn't she great??

I wish I was celebrating with my family today, but I'll be home in about a week. My mum's actually going to be coming in on Thursday night, so we can celebrate then.

But I have lots of stuff to do! I have to:
  • write 10 responses on my Shakespeare discussion board.... ugh.
  • write 3 movie reviews for Shakespeare (after watching 1 more movie....)
  • write a final worldview journal for Core
  • keep cleaning up my room and working on packing it up to go home
  • finish All the Names by Jose Saramago
So many things to do! I'll probably be up fairly late tonight....

Here's my homework/cleaning playlist for today!:
Steal My Kisses - Ben Harper
Penny on the Train Track - Ben Kweller
Bad - U2
I Feel Good - James Brown
Patient Patient - The Morning Benders
Cut Me Up Jenny - Taking Back Sunday

good company and good food in the wee hours of the morning

Just some pictures from our hall activity at Shari's. Lots of fun! The faces that happened in these pictures are amazing! I love candid photos! We always have good times at Shari's after midnight. I don't think I've actually been there earlier than, like, eleven o'clock....

I mentioned in the last post that I didn't like my shoe decision. So I threw on my Converses. Much more satisfying!

And the BBQ was a lot of fun! And Broadway Unbound was really really good! I'm so proud of all my friends who were in it! The dancing was very well done.

song of the moment (meaning it's currently playing on my iTunes....): Good Gone Girl - Mika

you don't stop

So my hair's in this awkward transitional phase between full bangs and side bangs. They need at least another half inch. Until then, they will be pinned back or braided so that I don't have to deal with them.

On another note, I think I should've worn black flats instead of the gray ones.... But I've been wearing them since 8:45 this morning when I walked out the door to go to class this morning. So whatever.

Tonight and tomorrow night should be really fun. There's a showcase of performing arts classes tonight that some of my friends are in and I have a hall activity tonight too. (We're going to Shari's to get milkshakes and stuff. Can you say chocolate malt and french fries?? Heck yes.) My dorm is also having an end-of-the-year BBQ tonight. (Whoo! No Saga food tonight!) And tomorrow night I'm ushering (meaning passing out programs and then staying for free!) for a performance of Midsummer Night's Dream by the Seattle Shakespeare Company. Extra fun stuff!

The rest of the weekend will consist of cleaning and laundry and studying for finals. And then.... finals. And then SUMMER!!! Staying focused on the fun stuff.

you thought by now you'd be so much better

This morning was a bit hectic for me, so I needed to throw on something easy. Please note that "something easy" for me entails a skirt.... a skirt that is a bit impractical for weather in the upper 40s.... But to be honest, I've found skirts over the past two years to be exceedingly easy to just throw on and instantly look cute and be comfortable for the day. Sometimes jeans are just too confining.

A good a-line type skirt can be perfect for days like today when I had about five minutes to throw clothes on before class. And a nice, comfortable skirt that isn't very confining or restricts much movement is perfect for sitting on the floor and doing homework. The black skirt I wore yesterday is not one of those skirts, so the contrast between yesterday and today's skirts has been quite welcome.

So today marked the last classes for my history and Shakespeare classes. It feels so weird. I've finished courses and had these kinds of days last semester and during Jan Term, but it feels different. Probably because last semester ended around the same time as the schools back home let out for winter break and I was taking a two week vacation like my brother and sister. Now I'm ending school for the summer half-way through May (seven more days tomorrow!) and going home to find a job while my brother and sister are still in school for about another month. I'm not coming back to this same room with the same people in two weeks. I'm coming back in three months to a new environment and a new schedule. And I have to pack up my whole room and move out after my last final next friday. I've never had to move right after school let out for summer and put things in storage to put into a new room a few months later. It feels so strange.

Newer news for today: I just ordered a new skirt today (I might be obsessed with skirts. I just got one in the mail less than a month ago. But this one is going to my house, so I'll get it in the mail when I get home. Sort of a welcome home present to myself....). AND my mum's going to be here in a week to help me pack up and move out! I can't wait to see her! I sent her a "card" for Mothers' Day in the mail on Tuesday, but it'll be great to see her in person. And then I'll be home a few days later and I'll get to watch movies with my dad and my best friend and hang out with my puppies while my little brother and sister go to school.... and look for a job.... But one step at a time.

more weather blues

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I'm celebrating with the care package my mum sent me a few days ago full of delicious food! I'm falling in love all over again with Teddy Grahams. They're awesome! It's been a normal day in Spokane, including 50-degree weather in May.... I can't wait to get back to California. They're getting normal pre-summer weather down there. But it should warm up during the weekend, maybe. For now, I'll continue wearing my trusty coat outside.

he's the boss

It's my daddy's birthday today! I'm really sad I can't spend it with my family. My dad and I are really close. And I'm pretty sure the whole family is getting together at my grandparents' house on Sunday for Mothers' Day too. But at least I'll see them all for Fathers' Day. I can't wait to be home and see everyone! Especially these guys!:

I miss my puppies almost more than my family sometimes.... Probably because the rest of my family are too big to curl up on my lap or in the bend of my knees like Toby and Tessa do. They're all not as soft and furry as they are either.... at least I hope they're not as furry....
So in honor of my dad's birthday, let's all listen to some Bruce Springsteen, Counting Crows, U2, and Pearl Jam if you have it! Cheers!
