lifesavers

My lifesaver right now while I wait for my laundry to finish so I can go to bed. The whole studying/writing papers didn't really happen this weekend like it was supposed to.... I tried. And I got some research done. But I'm just going to be lugging Cleo around everywhere tomorrow so I can snag bits of time to do work whenever. I have so much to do for my finals on Tuesday...! Ahhhh!!!!

I haven't had soda in what feels like forever. But orange soda's one of my favorites. Drinking this reminds me of Kel from Kenan & Kel - "I love Orange Soda! I do I do I do-oo!" and the song from Josie and the Pussycats - "Red milk and Orange Crush" (I think it was called "Three Small Words", I'm not sure....). Ah, childhood pop culture. I loved that movie so much. I memorized the songs by watching it over and over again and renting it from the video store all the time. It was my favorite movie for like four years. And you can never go wrong with All That and all it's spin-off shows from the 90s. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.... :]

a last hurrah

Yesterday was quite eventful. I was very much expecting it to be dull and full of homework. I kind of forgot that I had a ticket for the choir Christmas concert though. So we left at 6:00 to get there a little early before it started at 7:00. However, the directions we were given were wrong. It was quite an adventure.... But we made it on time and that's all that matters.

(texting for new directions)

And then we went to Walmart to get cookie dough and other food (like eggs, cheese and bread to make real food after we got back). But, as it's always the case whenever we go to Walmart, we ended up goofing around and taking pictures of random things.

(pile o' Hot Wheels)
(apparently, Walmart doesn't sell cool fish because there were none in this tank....)
(our Walmart adventure ended in a broom fight between Hayley and me.)

Then we went back to campus and explored the tunnels underneath our dorm and then made eggs and toast at midnight and then hung out talking in the downstairs lounge with a whole bunch of people while Horton Hears a Who was playing on the TV. We also drank sparkling cider and watched a pipe burst in the dorm next door. It was quite a good night. Kind of a good "pre-Finals last hurrah" before the madness ensues this week.

welcome to Finals

So. Goal of this week is to survive my first official finals of college without any major injuries. For some classes, this should be fairly easy to do. For others, it could be the death of me. Not to be depressing or anything. Some things that I have to do will result in copious amounts of stress and a distinctive lack of sleep. I could lose my mind with everything that has to be accomplished for my first two finals (on the same day....). At least when one's mind gets misplaced, one is normally a bit more cheerful and carefree. That might be a bit nice. And the even better thing about finishing this could-be hellish week is that I get to go home for Christmas break at the end of it! Good food, good friends, good rest. All good things. So that's the pot of gold at the end of my not-so-beautiful rainbow. But who know. I could be pleasantly surprised by how un-awful it all could be.

living ice sculpture

I have never ever ever been in single-digit weather. This is very weird for me. But I think after a certain temperature, my body has just started registering it as "freezing" so I don't wear more than about three layers when I go outside because it's all the same now. I'm still cold, but as long as I keep my hands in my pockets and my ears covered, I'm okay. But I keep forgetting to grab a hat on my way out. So my ears freeze. But otherwise, I think I'm coping fairly well. It's the English and Scottish heritage pulling through for me I think.

(I've been on my phone a lot recently. it's kinda strange since I can go for days without really using it. but that's Fiona. she serves me well.)
(I've been wearing my Converse a lot more recently. for a long time I just wore Vans. but I like the look of long jeans and Chuck Taylors right now. it makes me feel like a ratty college student. and I study on the floor in my room. I don't like desks....)

(it's a Pandora day. lot's of Iron & Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, and Damien Rice love going on in my ears. "Farewell" by Rosie Thomas was playing right then. sooo good!)

Study Study Study.....

Welcome to a change of scenery. The 3rd Floor Lounge. The reason: padded furniture with armrests = comfy seating for my bum. The fact that it's a very social area is a good thing too. It's a really great place to read such books as War Without Mercy and Othello from last week and Red China Blue and To Stir the Heart for this week's reading. So it is yet another night of homework and studying for me. I have books to finish and essays to write. It's also the final week before finals. By this time a week from next I will be snuggled up at home on my own couch with my dogs. Or hanging out with my best friend since she'll be home for Christmas Break too unlike Thanksgiving. But right now, it's 12 degrees outside. At least it was sunny today....

(good book)
(it has pictures....)

(I'm probably buying these for my younger brother for Christmas. thank God for holiday discounts!)
(this pattern makes me think of Winter. my mum thinks it's too low cut. but she's older so her opinion on this top doesn't count. especially since I go to school so far away now....)

change is good

Ta-da! New haircut! My bangs were getting too long and I wanted a new change. So while I was trimming one of my room mate's hair on Wednesday, I just decided "what the heck!" and cut myself a new set of full bangs. So far everyone likes them, so I guess I did a good job. I normally wouldn't cut them like this myself and the last time that I did it didn't turn out quite to my liking. But I think it was fairly successful. And, yet again, I've been cooped up in my room doing homework. I think I need to branch out to other venues - get a change of scenery.

(study study study.... plus facebook....)
(my room mate makes pop tab bracelets so I came back from Thanksgiving and this beauty was sitting on my desk. awesome.)

"sat on a floor in a grey, grey room...."

I needed a good outift to cheer me up today. Every since coming back to school, I've been pretty out of it. I'm sick right now and I haven't had much of an appetite at all. I slept through some of my classes yesterday and have been really absentminded about assignments. And on top of all that, my room mate's alarm went off at 6:00am and kept going for almost 10 minutes before she turned it off. It almost got thrown out the window. So to make myself feel better, I forwent the jeans and sweatshirts that I would normally wear while sick. And despite the weather being in the 30s all day, I dug the skirt I bought while in Paris two summers ago out of my closet and my cranberry-colored tights and went from there.

At this point in time, I'm feeling better. But tonight's activities include reading Othello and War Without Mercy and listening to Damien Rice and Bon Iver. And possibly making some tea later followed by cold medicine and bed. It's times like these that I really miss my couches at home and my puppies. They make everything better.
